Kids and Crew

Sailing can be learned at any age and shared in groups of all ages. In fact, sailing is unique among sports as one in which a grandmother and granddaughter can be on the same team.

The Milwaukee Community Sailing Center is committed to making space for families and family sailing. First, many children of members learn to sail in our Prams and Youth classes‚ and some become Staff Instructors at age 16. Many Adult members sail frequently with their families as guests during Open Sailing.

Our Kids and Crew Program puts any mix of family members (two or three per boat) aboard our fun fleet of Catalina 14.2 centerboard sailboats to play games, build team skills and practice fun racing. A crew might be made of a daughter and a dad, a grandson and a grandmother, or a son, a daughter and their mom.

With an emphasis on fun, these family groups learn to rig and launch the boats, recover from capsize, experience adventure on the water, work together to solve problems, practice a variety of sailing maneuvers and safety skills, sail to Milwaukee harbor destinations, and learn new sailing games.
