New Siri Remote: Live stream pause/resume accuracy?

AppleTV Siri remote: changes between basic model and new model?

I am considering buying the new Siri Remote. I like listening to Tom and Goose on iHeart radio and pausing the live stream on my TV to get in sync with the radio. But, I cannot get my current, basic remote to accurately pause and start the stream. There is always a pause and sometimes I accidentally must rub the top of the remote and things go haywire. I have a different TV where I use Roku. The Roku remote is very basic. No place for swiping or gestures. Just click. And it just works! I would buy the new Siri remote if I could pause and resume live action easily like on the Roku remote. Does anyone know if the new Siri remote acts this way?

While I can’t say if it will solve your issues, you can use the Siri Remote (either model) without swiping. Instead of swiping, click or tap in the up/down/left/right directions (marked in red in the image below).

There is also a setting to prevent accidental swiping by blocking these gestures, for Siri Remote (2nd generation or later); i.e. the ‘silver’ one. Adjust remote settings on Apple TV 4K - Apple Support

I reread my question and for clarity wish to restate it, hopefully better:

I am considering buying the new Siri Remote. I like listening to my college team's announcers instead of the TV announcers for college basketball games. I need to use iHeart radio to get the team's announcers. Then I pause the live stream on my TV to get in sync with the radio. But, I cannot get my current, basic AppleTV remote to accurately pause and start the stream. There is always a lag and sometimes I accidentally rub the top of the remote and things go haywire. I have a smaller TV in the bedroom where I use Roku instead of AppleTV. The Roku remote is very basic. No place for swiping or gestures. Just click. And it just works! I would buy the new Siri remote if I could pause and resume live action easily, like on the Roku remote. Does anyone know if the new Siri remote acts this way?
