Associating text editors with Git

Use a text editor to open and edit your files with Git.

Using Visual Studio Code as your editor

  1. Install Visual Studio Code (VS Code). For more information, see Setting up VS Code in the VS Code documentation.

  2. Open TerminalTerminalGit Bash.

  3. Type this command:

    git config --global core.editor "code --wait"

Using Sublime Text as your editor

  3. Type this command:

    git config --global core.editor "subl -n -w"

    git config --global core.editor "'C:/Program Files (x86)/sublime text 3/subl.exe' -w"

  3. Type this command:

    git config --global core.editor "subl -n -w"
    

Using Notepad++ as your editor

  1. Install Notepad++ from https://notepad-plus-plus.org/. For more information, see Getting started in the Notepad++ documentation.

  2. Open TerminalTerminalGit Bash.

  3. Type this command:

    git config --global core.editor "'C:/Program Files (x86)/Notepad++/notepad++.exe' -multiInst -notabbar -nosession -noPlugin"
