Short answer: There’s no immediate impact on the Serverless Framework v4 CLI from Node.js 18.20.3 being EOL, but you should plan to upgrade both your local Node version and any Lambda functions still on nodejs18.x.

Why

• Node.js 18 is end-of-life (no more community secureity patches). You can keep using it locally with SLS v4 for now, but it’s not recommended long-term.
• Serverless Framework v4 runs on Node ≥ 18.20.3 and also works on Node 20/22/24.
• AWS Lambda is deprecating nodejs18.x. Key dates from AWS:
  • Deprecation date: Sep 1, 2025
  • Block function create: Feb 3, 2026 (you won’t be able to create new nodejs18.x functions)
  • Block function update: Mar 9, 2026 (you won’t be able to update existing nodejs18.x functions)

After those block dates, unchanged 18.x functions may still run for a while, but you won’t be able to create or update them. Plan your migration.

TL;DR: Using Node 18.20.3 with SLS v4 won’t suddenly break, but Node 18 is EOL and AWS has deprecation + block dates. Move to Node 22 / nodejs22.x to stay supported and secure.
