Abstract

An air conditioning cooling coil and its associated drain pan are positionable in either a vertical or horizontal air flow orientation. With the drain pan in its vertical air flow orientation, generally horizontally disposed drainage trough portions of the drain pan around its periphery are sloped relative to one another in a manner such that all coil condensation received in the troughs flows by gravity therethrough into a downwardly projecting condensate well and outwardly through an outlet opening therein. When the drain pan is in its horizontal air flow orientation, the troughs are disposed generally in a vertical plane, and coil condensation falls on a specially designed horizontal drip shield, which may be connected to the pan without tools, separate fasteners or sealing material, and drains along the drip shield into one of the pan troughs for discharge from the main drain opening of the pan.

Abstract

A mobile vehicle or wheelchair has the ability to provide stabilized transport to at least one individual on a variety of surfaces, slopes and/or terrains. The mobile unit or wheelchair may travel across smooth and very rough surfaces, slopes of varying or different angles and various outdoor terrains (including grassy, rocky, sandy, muddy and/or hilly terrains). In one aspect, the height of any part of the unit or the overall height of the device may be adjusted preferably to raise or lower the center of gravity. For example, the height of the device may be lowered to provide more stable transportation. In another aspect, the device may be adjusted to increase or decrease the size of the footprint (or any part of the footprint) of the device. For example, the footprint of the device may be enlarged to provide more stable transportation. Preferably, both the height of the device (or any part of the device) and the size of the footprint (or any part of the footprint) may be adjusted preferably to provide more stability.

Abstract

A high density dot matrix printer is disclosed which can print characters with variable font and having print resolution close to that of a typewriter. Printing on both a forward and reverse pass of a line of characters with the dot print head coupled with offsetting the dot matrix print head for the reverse pass printing doubles the line density in printing characters to increase resolution. In addition, a compacted character code arrangement is utilized having a different printing code for the reverse pass printing than for the forward pass printing, and uses single binary words to represent many dot printing positions dependent on the location of the single binary word in the character code coupled with using single binary words to represent many possible dot positions in which no dots are to be printed. This compacted character code arrangement permits the use of a relatively small amount of memory and results in operating a larger number of print head pins in printing each character than heretofore practiced in the art to greatly increase print resolution. A lower level of increased resolution printing is obtained by utilizing the compacted character code technique for the forward pass printing but deleting reverse pass printing to increase printing speed when required.

Abstract

A system (10) for operating a multiplicity of credit card reader-equipped cellular mobile radiotelephones (CMRs 12) as credit card paystations is disclosed. The CMRs (12) incorporate a remotely programmable unit (RPU 48) which controls credit card operation (1400, 1700) and which controls data communication sessions (188, 1900, 2100) with a credit card (CC) host (26) and a remote programming (RP) host (24). The RPU (48) resides between a conventional control unit (CU 42) and a conventional transmit/receive unit (TRU 62) of a conventional CMR. The RPU (48) monitors messages (1200, 1300) transmitted from the CU (42) and from the TRU (62). The CMR (12) powers up in a locked state (1402), within which a credit card (88) may be read. The credit card is locally validated (1421) at CMR 12. If the validation is successful, the CMR (12) is unlocked so that a call may be placed.

Abstract

The Flow Boulevard concepts provide a system of transportation improvement for urban and suburban existing development and or new development. The system provides the optimization of vehicular capacity and level of service for at grade interrupted flow facilities without the widening of streets. The system is comprised of single and couplet street configurations that allow corridors and networks to be developed that have vehicles flowing without stopping throughout the corridor or network. Benefit of true bus rapid transit is attained by removing the necessity to stop at signals and with only stopping for boarding and alighting of bus riders. Consolidation of population increases in low density settings by introducing medium density corridors can dramatically reduce vehicular miles traveled in suburban locations to conserve resources and reduce greenhouse gases. The system of improvement is both inexpensive by using existing streets and has little impact on existing development by not widening streets.
